Have you seen it: Moon

by - June 17, 2015

I thought I'd start a little series here on my blog, I'm thinking this could be a once a month post... maybe. 'm going to be sharing with you films/TV shows that I genuinely really enjoy or feel are perhaps a bit underrated and the world needs to see them!

Today I'm sharing with you a film I'd never even heard of before I watched it! That film is Moon.

Released in 2009 this Sci-Fi/Mystery/Drama slipped past my radar completely until last year when James brought it round for me to watch - and I loved it!

Who's in it?
Lead actor Sam Rockwell actually had this film written for him by Director Ducan Jones!
Kevin Spacey voices robot GERTY

What Happens?
Astronaut Sam Bell is the only human working on the moon, in charge of harvesting helium and returning capsules of it to earth. His mission is a three year contract but as his final days draw near Sam's health begins to take a turn for the worse.
One day whilst checking on one of the harvesters he is involved in a crash, once he regains consciousness he is back at the base with his faithful robot GERTY explaining the crash to him, but he's no longer the only human.

 Why is this worth watching?
I enjoy  a film that has an air of mystery about it, one that can keep you gripped and keeps you guessing all the way through and Moon certainly has that quality.
Even with such a minimal cast this film has some excellent characters that we really get to see in depth.
There is an almost Cohen Brother's feel about this film and by that I mean it is quiet, not a lot of action but still manages to be gripping.
I also think the exploitation of Sam by Lunar Industries whilst perhaps an obviously unrealistic example should make us think about the lengths large companies even now will go to in exploiting their staff.

This is a thought provoking and captivating film with an eerie and enthralling sound track, acting and message, well worth 1h and 37 mins of anyone's time.
