Have you seen it: Twin Peaks

by - July 15, 2015

Last month I kicked off this series by sharing a great film with you, Moon (you can read out it here). Today I'm branching out from films to share a cult classic TV show with you, Twin Peaks.

Originally broadcast in the early 90's this crime/drama/mystery may be a little before many of my readers time to have watched it first time around! However since it's initial release it has gained more of a cult following and there's even going to be a reboot in 2017!

Who's in it?
Lead actor Kyle MacLachan plays what is possibly one of the best TV characters ever written, Special Agent Dale Cooper. There are plenty of stars to be found in the cast including; Sherilyn Fenn, Lara Flynn Boyle and Everett McGill.

What Happens?
This TV series can really be split into two main events across the 2 series - Who killed Laura Palmer and What is the black lodge?.
The show begins with the body of Laura Palmer being discovered, enter Special Agent Dale Cooper FBI to crack the case. The story follows Coopers investigations and other main characters present in the town - everything is not as it seems in Twin Peaks.
Series two delves more into the The Black Lodge a series long game of chess sees more murders and distress brought upon the town as well as giving you that final answer of who killed Laura.

Why is it worth watching?
Twin Peaks has gathered a cult following for a reason - there's really nothing else like it! The story is gripping and you'll definitely need to plan some time for this as it's quite hard to not watch episode after episode. The characters are some of the best I've seen in TV shows; Dale Cooper is by far the coolest FBI agent you'll come across, Audrey Horne is the most beautiful and stylish High Schooler ever and Nadine Hurley? Well she's just down right weird.
Overall it's captivating, suspense filled and thanks to the involvement of director David Lynch, a little bit crazy in places. For the full Twin Peaks experience I recommend watching the log lady intros for some extra pearls of wisdom - and confusion.

One thing I can't believe I'd forgotten up until this point... The amazing soundtrack! Have a listen for yourself.

Be prepared for a lust for black coffee and cherry pie! Oh and some excellent retro fashion.

You'll like this if you also liked: Fargo (TV series), Mulholland Drive,

  7. This was my most favorite movie when I was a tee :) Loved the characters and the plot, and of course Agent Cooper was a part of my girl dreams :)))) So sad to see that Kyle MacLachan got old (but I still enjoy his acting, for example in "How I Met Your Mother"). And the music... it plays in my head surprisingly often.
