Review: Inside Out

by - August 04, 2015

Disney Pixar's new release "Inside Out" hit screens across the UK on 24th July and if you haven't seen it you really need to!

We ventured a little further afield to watch this one, ditching out usual cinema for one in Sheffield whilst we visited family. As it is a children's film we tried to be a bit careful and chose the latest showing possible (9pm to be precise), unfortunately some bad parenting going on in the row in front nearly spoilt the film - if you're a parent please do not take your kids to a showing this late it's clearly for the adults!

 Inside Out
PG | 1h 34mins | Action/Adventure/Comedy

Teenager Riley has had a very happy life up until now, she's got great friend, great family, great hockey skills and she's a bit of a goofball. Suddenly her entire life is changed when she has to move to San Francisco and leave her old life behind. Inside Riley's head we meet the emotions that control each of her actions; Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust and Anger. They guide Riley through life and up until now it's been Joy that's taken the lead but when Sadness starts to mess with Riley's memories things take a turn for the worse!

My Thoughts:
It's  been a while since I wanted to see an animation at the cinema and at first this wasn't one I was too fussed about either but after seeing the trailer (above) I knew it'd be a must see - It's Hilarious!
This film's is fantastic, whether you're taking your young kids or you're a group of adults at a late evening showing it's definitely worth a watch.
Pixar capture the emotions so well and the idea of the control Headquarters inside your head you'll think they looked into your brain to see how it really works! It's very cleverly thought out.
This film tackles some serious issues, going through a big transition in life is tough and our emotions can change rapidly, it looks at exploring sadness and seeing why it is so important... It's just lovely.
Of course there is plenty of comic relief from these tough issues my personal favourite being the Triple Dent Gum theme tune - much to Anger's frustration
The animation is great (of course, it is Pixar), the voice acting spot on and the storyline good enough to keep you gripped as well as having you laughing and crying, definitely a must see!

My Score:

Now I know I usually leave it there but there's something quite special about this film that I have to share with everyone! As much as I enjoyed Inside Out I'd go again just for the first 6 minutes, in true Pixar style they've tagged on a Short Animation at the beginning and I can honestly say it's one of the most wonderful things I've ever seen at the cinema
Lava is a beautiful animation that, through song, tells the love story of a lonely Volcano in the middle of the sea. The animation is perfect, the colours are beautiful and the song is so lovely it'll have you in tears. Even if you're not bothered about Inside Out, Lava is an absolute must see.
I really hope we see this win best short animation at next years Oscar's.
My score for Lava? 10!
