Jeff Bridges says he's trying "not to make films anymore" so what called him to make Hell or High Water? An irresistible script...

The story begins with brothers Toby (Chris Pine) and Tanner (Ben Foster) setting out to rob a branch of a Texas Midwestern bank. It's clear to tell that the pair are no experts but even with a few hiccups they escape with the cash. It turns out that this robbery is just the first in carefully planned Texas road trip and the motive behind this odd methodology will soon become clear. Meanwhile State Troopers Marcus Hamilton (Jeff Bridges) and Alberto Parker (Gil Birmingham) are in pursuit of the robbers with Marcus determined to outsmart them.

My Thoughts

This was a thoroughly enjoyable film and you'll be hooked from the start. Chris Pine is an excellent lead, portraying a divorced father of two desperately trying to save his boy's future, he really makes you understand the motive behind his action. Jeff Bridges and Gil Birmingham provide the perfect amount of comic relief in an otherwise crime drama. They really lift the script and a special mention to "The T-Bone's" Waitress on her excellent table manner...
The cinematography of the film is lovely although it just goes to show how baron Texas actually is and the music throughout is well placed.
Overall this film balances drama and action with gentle comedy and is well worth a watch!
