5 Things Everyone Should Do In New York

March 09, 2017

It's almost a year ago that James and I headed off for a long weekend in the Big Apple and we're already wishing for the opportunity to go back. Whilst we're being nostalgic here are five experiences we think everyone should have in New York...

five must do things in new york

1. See the view from the top of the Empire State Building
There's a reason this is on the top of everyone's to do list! There really isn't anything like it! Having done both Top of the Rock and the Empire State we definitely preferred this view! Not only does it feel like you're right in the heart of the city there isn't much to block the view. You also get to learn about the history of the building as part of the experience.
Top Tip: The observation deck is open from 8am, we recommend getting up their early when it's nice and quiet!

2. Eat like a local at Kat'z Deli
There are so many amazing places to eat in New York but we'd definitely recommend you make the trip down to Kat'z Deli, there's a queue out the door but it's well worth the wait! Not convinced? Even Leonardo Di Caprio has eaten there!
Top Tip: It takes a little longer but it's worth queuing for table service, that way you're guaranteed a seat and don't have to panic about what to order at the counter!

3. Stop in Dumbo for an awesome photo opportunity
Whilst you're hanging out downtown it's worth a trip over into Brooklyn, Dumbo is a great neighbourhood for strolling around with it's quirky coffee shops and unique boutiques. Have a look for the street pictured below, can you spot the Empire State Building?
Top Tip: Combine your trip over to Brooklyn with the next must do!

4. Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge
We think the Brooklyn Bridge is one of these most iconic landmarks in New York and the best way to see this industrial wonder is to walk across it yourself! From the bridge you can even see the statue of liberty!
Top Tip: The bridge is always pretty busy but less so in the winter months. If you don't fancy walking over twice why not taxi it into Dumbo then enjoy the stroll back over.

5. Take a stroll through central park
When you think of New York you must be thinking Central Park! This huge green space is a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of the big city. It's an amazing place to walk around whether you're interested in visiting the view, ice skating or even stopping at some very well known film locations Central Park has a lot to offer!
Top Tip: You can hire bikes to cycle around the park but we found that you're quite restricted on which paths you can go on. Ditch the bike and enjoy the walk!
